What makes Goldylost wigs and hair toppers special?
At Goldylost, we only use the best materials on the market — high-quality human hair, hand-sewn lace and silk tops — and every piece is personally customized with its cut, color, and style, so it's ready to wear straight out of the box. It's the small touches that make the biggest difference: lightly bleached knots, the perfect shadow root, soft face-framing layers, and lower density around the hairline. These are the details you only think to get right when you've worn hair yourself.
And that's really what sets us apart. Goldylost was created by a woman living with hair loss — not to build a business, but to help other women find what she spent years searching for and couldn't. We know how stressful buying your first piece can be, because we've been exactly where you are. So every wig and topper is made to a standard we'd be proud to wear ourselves, and that you'll feel completely yourself in.
Can wigs and hair toppers look natural?
Absolutely — and this is the worry we hear most. A good piece shouldn't look like a wig at all; it should simply look like your own hair. That's why ours are made from real human hair with hand-tied lace and silk tops that create a hairline so natural it disappears into your skin, with a part you can wear wherever you like. When a piece is made well, no one questions it. The only person who needs to know is you.
Will anyone be able to tell I'm wearing it?
Unlikely. Our wigs and toppers are designed to look like real hair growing from your own head — transparent lace hairlines, small hand-tied knots, and a natural part. When a piece is fitted well, cut to suit your face, and styled the way you'd style your own hair, people simply don't question it.
Which wigs look the most natural?
High-quality human hair wigs will always look the most natural. We believe lace top and lace front cap constructions give the most natural and realistic look. This is what Goldylost specializes in, wigs that mimic natural hair growth and appearance.
Can you wear a wig with long hair?
Yes! Everyone can wear a wig. Wigs are a great way to change your look to suit your mood or style. You can have a cute bob without cutting your own hair, or go super blonde without damaging your own hair with bleach.
What is lace front, and why is it better?
The "lace front" is a panel of fine, transparent lace at your hairline that the hair is individually tied into. Because the lace is sheer and the knots are small, it disappears against your skin and creates a hairline that looks like it's growing right out of your forehead. It also lets the hair at the front move freely in any direction, just like your own. It's one of the details that separates a natural-looking piece from an obvious one.
What is the difference between hand tied and wefted?
"Hand-tied" means every hair on the top of the cap has been individually tied with a small knot, which lets the hair move freely in any direction, just like real hair growing from your scalp. "Wefted" means the hairs are sewn by machine onto strips, which are then sewn onto the back of the cap.
On a fully hand-tied cap, every hair is hand-sewn onto the entire cap — the top and the back. This takes considerably more time, which is why it sits at a higher price point. The benefit is that you can wear more styles, and many women simply prefer the softer, lighter fit against the head.
Can I wear a topper if I have very little hair left at the front?
Possibly — our lace topper was designed with this in mind. Because the lace top sits very flat, it's easier to blend for women who have less hair at the hairline than a thicker silk-top topper would be. That said, if the hair at your front and sides is very sparse, a wig may give you a more secure, worry-free result. This is a great one to talk through with us directly so we can look at what you're working with.
Can the clips be removed?
Yes. You can snip the thread at each corner to remove them. We can also remove them before shipping if you let us know at the time of ordering. This does make the item non-returnable.
Is a hair topper more comfortable than a wig?
This is a personal preference. A topper only covers the top part of your head so it is more lightweight than a wig. Your own hair is left out underneath the topper so it is easier to tie back into a ponytail/plait/low bun and it allows more air to reach your scalp which can be cooler in hot climates. Some people feel a wig is more comfortable as it fits snuggly over the whole head, and they enjoy this snug secure feeling. They also prefer to not have clips on their own hair.
Should a hair topper be the same length as your hair?
A hair topper doesn't necessarily have to be the exact same length as your natural hair. It can be slightly longer, depending on the look you want to achieve. However, a topper that is significantly longer or shorter might not blend well enough to appear natural.
Can you wear a hair topper if you are bald?
We would not recommend this. Hair toppers are designed to blend with your natural hair. A wig would be more suitable.
How do women's hair toppers work?
A hair topper is a hair extension that clips on to the top of your own hair, covering the top area of your head. It adds volume, length and also hides hair loss and thin areas. All of GoldyLost Hair toppers are made with beautiful high quality human hair and look incredibly natural.
What's the difference between a topper and a wig?
A topper sits on top of your head and blends with your existing hair to add volume and length. It's the right choice if you have thinning on top or at the part but still have healthy hair around the sides and back to clip into.
A wig covers your whole head and replaces all of your hair. It's the right choice if your hair loss is more advanced or all-over, or if you simply want the freedom to change your color or length completely without touching your own hair.
If you're not sure which is best for you, send us a photo or book a free consultation and we'll help guide you
Do I need a wig or topper?
This can depend on the reason for wanting to wear a hair piece. A wig offers full coverage and can be worn by anyone, whether you have a full head of hair, or no hair at all. With a wig you can choose any color, length or style you like. A topper is a hair extension for the top of your head, designed to blend with your existing hair, so you will need some of your own hair for the topper to clip on to.
What wigs or toppers for Alopecia?
At Goldylost we are familiar with the journey of hair loss for women. All our wigs and hair toppers are designed with comfort features for women with hair loss. The type of hair topper or wig will depend on the type of alopecia you have. Toppers are great for thinning hair, or hair loss on the top of the head, while a wig is a better option for larger areas of hair loss or total hair loss.
We can also add small additions by request such as silicone on the ear tabs and nape.
How do I choose a wig or hair topper?
To choose a wig you will need to measure your head for your correct cap size, and then choose a color and length you love. To choose a hair topper, look for one that is a similar color and length to your own hair. Remember any of the wigs or hair toppers can be restyled any way you like. So don't get too stuck on where the part line is or the style. If you don’t know what you are looking for, we recommend you book a consult.
Can I book an in-person or virtual consultation?
Yes! We offer both in-person and video consultations to cater to your preferences and convenience.
Face-to face consultations are in our boutiques in Sydney, Australia or Florida, USA. These consultations are free and run for 60 minutes.
Video consultations are conducted over Zoom. These consultations are free and run for 30 minutes.
To schedule your appointment, simply check our Book a Consultation page and select the best time for you.
I'm nervous about buying hair online without trying it on. Is that normal?
Completely normal — and you're not alone. Most of our customers felt exactly the same before their first piece. That's why we put so much care into helping you choose: detailed guidance, honest advice, real photos and customer stories, and a real person to talk to. And if being in the room matters to you and you're near Sydney or Doral, our boutiques are always open to you.
Do you have physical stores I can visit?
Yes — we have two locations where you can come in, see and feel the hair, and get fitted in person:
- Sydney, Australia — Shop 1/38 City Road, Chippendale NSW 2008
- Doral, Florida, USA — Suite House and Co, 7901 NW 36th St, Suite 102-100, Doral FL 33166
How do I measure my head for a wig or topper ?
Wigs have different cap sizes from XS - XL, so you will need to measure your head to get your best fit. Toppers are universal sizing. All of our wig product pages have a simple video showing you how to do this. You do not need to measure your head for a hair topper.
What if I'm between sizes?
Send us your measurements and we'll recommend the best fit. As a rule, if you're borderline we suggest sizing down in all our wigs, except in the pony wigs where we recommend sizing up (the pony wig is designed to fit very snug, so the cap runs a little smaller).
How do I know what length to order?
Grab a tape measure and begin at the crown of your head. Measure down to where you would like your new hair to stop. A topper should be a similar length to your own hair ( not shorter) and if you desire some extra length, feel free to order toppers that are 2 to 4 inches longer than your natural hair. A wig can be any length you desire.
What kind of hair do you use?
We only use high-quality human hair, so your piece can be washed, heat-styled, and treated just like your own. Our classic collection is a beautiful fine-textured human hair that looks and moves naturally — soft, light, and never thick or "wiggy." And for something truly special, our Virgin European collection is an ultra-fine virgin hair, never colored or chemically treated, in its completely natural state. It's the rarest, finest hair we offer,
Where does the hair come from?
We source our hair ourselves, which is unusual for a wig company. We work with a small, family-run hair seller in Southern Brazil. This lets us get some of the most beautiful, fine-textured, healthy ponytails on the market.
How long will they last?
With good care, a quality human hair piece worn regularly typically lasts around 1 to 2 years, and often longer if it's part of a rotation or worn gently. Lifespan really comes down to how often you wear it, how you store it, and how kindly you treat it. Think of it the way you'd think of your own hair — the gentler you are, the longer it stays beautiful.
We do offer repair services to get the longest wear out of your piece.
Which wigs or hair toppers last the longest?
Human hair wigs have the longest lifespan due to their durability and resilience. With proper care, these wigs and hair toppers can maintain their quality for 1 - 3 years or more. Synthetic wigs have a shorter lifespan, generally lasting six months. A lace top cap construction is less durable than a silk top construction, but they are still a popular choice due to the lightweight feel and natural look. The longevity of any wig or hair topper depends on factors like wear frequency, maintenance routine, and styling practices.
What does "100% hand-tied" actually mean, and why does it matter?
It means each individual hair is tied by hand with a small knot into the cap, rather than sewn in by machine. Hand-tying is what lets the hair move in any direction just like real hair, and lets you part it anywhere you like — including a natural side part — because the hair isn't locked into one direction. It's far more time-consuming to make, and it's a big part of what makes a piece look and feel real.
What is density?
Density is the amount of hair we sew into the cap. Our wigs come in 2 standard densities, low and medium. We create most of our short length wigs (14” and below) in low density and our longer lengths (16” and above) in medium density. All lengths can be made in a low or medium by request.
- 110% (low density) — our lightest standard.
- 130% (medium density) — our standard, fuller look.
- Up to ~150% (higher density) — available as a custom order.
Due to the very fine texture of the European hair it will feel lower density.
Due to the lightweight cap construction the fully hand tied cap will feel lower density.
Toppers do not have the same measuring system for density, it is based on cap construction. All of our lace toppers are low density by default and our silk toppers medium density.
Why are human hair wigs and hair toppers so expensive?
Real Remy human hair, a hand-tied cap where every hair is placed individually, transparent lace hairlines, and the time it takes to make something that genuinely looks like your own hair — all of that costs more than a synthetic, machine-made piece. What you're paying for is the difference between something that looks like a wig and something that simply looks like you. For most of our customers, after years of wasting money on pieces that felt fake, this is the one that finally works.
What is the difference between a lace top and a silk top?
At Goldylost we create lace top wigs and lace top and silk top toppers.
Wigs: At Goldylost we create lace top wigs. We believe these look most natural for a wig. Silk top wigs are often too dense and have too much hair for most people. We can create these by request, if this is your preferred cap style.
Toppers: At Goldylost we create silk top and lace top toppers. Both have pros and cons and depend on your own natural hair and preferences. A silk top has a very realistic looking scalp. You should have some hair at your hairline to blend. Silk toppers are more dense than a lace topper, but also more durable. A lace topper is more lightweight and breathable, they do not require you to have hair at your hairline, they have less hair overall and they sit very flat.
Can wigs or hair toppers be dyed?
Goldylost wigs and hair toppers are made of high quality human hair and can be dyed like natural hair, however improper application or harsh chemicals will harm them. Many of the wigs and hair toppers have already been colored to get our gorgeous color range, so we do not recommend coloring further. We never recommended lightening any of our wigs or hair toppers which have already been colored. Adding color such as low lights or a dark root works well. Always work with a professional who is experienced working with wigs or hair toppers or get Goldylost to color for you.
How can I determine the right color to choose? The colors appear slightly different in photos and videos.
Unfortunately, the challenge of perfectly capturing a hair's exact color on camera is a bit like chasing rainbows. This is because hair does not have one true color. It looks different in different lighting, whether it's a wig or natural hair. The color will always have a slight variance between outdoor and indoor lighting, direct sunlight versus the softer glow of indoors, and there can even be variance between your computer and phone screens. We recommend looking at colors in our product listings as these are taken in front of a large window with natural lighting. Avoid choosing colors from client photos as these photos can be taken in incorrect lighting or even with a filter. Blue light blockers or night mode can also affect the color on devices, so be sure to turn these off when browsing.
You can also check out our color guide which explains each color or book a free consultation to see them in a video or in person.
How do I cut the lace on my wig or lace topper?
Cutting the lace is less daunting than it seems. We recommend a slow and careful approach! Keep in mind that you can always cut more off, but you can't put it back on. We recommend you use very sharp scissors to cut your lace to make a clean cut and prevent fraying later.
- Secure all hair away from the lace using clips to prevent unintended trimming of hair.
- Begin carefully trimming along the hairline, commencing at one ear and concluding at the opposite side.
- Your goal is to retain around 1/4 - 1/2 inch of lace beyond the hairline. Avoid trimming right up to the hairline to ensure the lace lies smoothly against your forehead.
- After making the initial cuts, wear the wig to assess its appearance. If needed, make further adjustments as you see fit.
You can watch our How to Cut Lace Video
We also have the option for the lace to be cut by a Goldylost expert before shipping the wig to you. Be aware this will video the return policy.
Do you take custom color requests?
We do. You can send through some inspiration photos and use our Custom Form.
Can I choose a side part?
Yes. Because the lace top is 100% hand-tied and multi-directional, you can part the hair where you like — including a side part, which a lot of pieces can't do. Your part is a big part of what makes hair look real, so this matters.
Can I style it with heat? Curl it, straighten it, blow-dry it?
Yes. Because it's real human hair, you can use your hot tools just like you would on your own hair. Our pieces air-dry straight and take heat styling well. As with your own hair, use a heat protectant and keep the temperature moderate to keep it looking beautiful for as long as possible.
You can blow dry it dry, but we do not recommend doing a blow out with a round brush (if taking to your hairdresser ensure they know this too!). Pulling with a round brush will break the knots on your lace top over and time, and cause shedding on your wig.
Can I order a piece styled straight instead of wavy?
Your wig or topper will come however it has been styled in the product image. You can choose the restyle option on the product page and we restyle it for you before shipping. And because it's human hair, you can also restyle it at home with heat tools whenever you like.
What are lowlights, highlights, money pieces, and rooting?
- Lowlights — darker pieces blended through for depth.
- Highlights — lighter pieces blended through for brightness. We only recommend adding highlights on our virgin hair pieces.
- Money pieces — face-framing highlights at the front. We hand sew lighter hair through the front, we do not bleach the hair.
- Rooting — a deeper shadow at the roots that mimics natural regrowth.
These can be combined for a beautifully dimensional, natural result.
Can I have bangs/fringe in a wig or hair topper?
Absolutely, we can cut any type of bang into your wig or hair topper before shipping it out to you, or you can have an experienced stylist of your choice cut them for you. Bangs are a great option to have in a topper, as it makes blending at the front super easy.
Can you change the part on a wig or hair topper?
Yes, you can change the part on all of our wigs and hair toppers. Because the top area is hand tied, you can do any part line you like. To change a part you can just spray some water to wet the area you want to change and comb it over to its new part line. Once the hair dries it will stay in the new part position.
Can I curl my wig or hair topper?
Yes, all of our wigs and toppers are made from beautiful human hair and look fabulous with a glam curl or a beach wave. You can use heatless curling methods, or a hot curling wand. Just ensure you use a good quality heat protector.
Can I sleep, shower, swim, or exercise in it?
Best practice is to take your piece off before you sleep and before you swim — chlorine and salt water are hard on human hair, and sleeping in it causes tangling and shortens its life. For exercise, many women wear their piece comfortably; just know that heavy sweat means you'll want to wash it a little more often. Our hat wigs are more durable and have a lower price point so they are perfect for these occasions.
Do I need to use glue or tape on my Goldylost wig or lace toppers?
No. Goldylost wigs come with a cap that hugs your head so you can simply put on and go. They are designed to be used without any adhesives, tape or glue.
Can I sleep in my wig or hair topper?
We don't recommend it. Sleeping in your piece causes friction against the pillow all night, which leads to tangling and matting and shortens its life. The best habit is to gently take it off before bed, brush it through, and store it on a wig stand so it holds its shape and is ready for you in the morning. If you have to sleep in it, we recommend wearing a silk bonnet or using a silk pillow.
Can you wear a wig or hair topper every day?
Yes, you can wear a wig or hair topper every day. Many people choose to wear their hair daily to address hair thinning, achieve a desired look, or enhance their natural hair.
Can you put a wig or hair topper in a ponytail?
Certainly! All of our wigs and hair toppers can be tied back into a low to mid ponytail or bun. As a topper blends with your own hair and has less hair in the cap, they are usually easier for tying back than a full wig. To pull your hair up into a higher ponytail or messy bun, a ponytail wig works best.
Is a wig or hair topper hot?
Wigs and hair toppers are generally not considered hot to wear. Obviously they will be warmer to wear than nothing at all, but so is clothing, hats and make up. Our wigs are made with human hair and breathable materials which helps them keep cool. A hair topper is more lightweight and cooler to wear than a full wig.
Can you wear a headband with a wig or hair topper?
Absolutely, you can wear any cute accessories with a wig or hair topper! Just position them as if the wig or hair topper was your own hair.
Can wigs and hair toppers cause hair loss?
Wearing wigs or hair toppers can help prevent hair loss by shielding hair from environmental damage, reducing heat styling, and allowing natural hair to rest. If your hair is very fragile a wig would be the most protective over a topper.
Will wigs or hair toppers damage your hair
No, when worn properly and cared for, wigs and toppers do not harm your natural hair. They actually promote better hair care habits and boost confidence while giving natural hair a break from daily stress.
Goldylost hair toppers all have pressure sensitive clips to protect your natural hair from damage.
Can wigs and hair toppers help with hair growth?
Wigs and hair toppers themselves don't directly promote hair growth. They can protect your own hair from environmental factors such as UV damage and help you keep your own hair healthy by reducing the need for constant styling.
Can wigs and hair toppers get wet?
Yes — because ours are made from real human hair, they can get wet and be washed, just like your own hair. They air-dry beautifully too, so there's no need to worry if you get caught in the rain. What we'd gently steer you away from is swimming in your piece: chlorine and salt water are harsh on human hair and will shorten its life, so it's best to take it off before a dip in the pool or ocean (our hat wigs are made exactly for the beach and pool).
How do I care for my Goldylost wig or hair topper?
Looking after your wig or hair topper is really easy. Have a look at our helpful Care Guide, it has all the information you need on washing, caring for and styling your wig.
Will my piece tangle?
Not under normal wear. Brush gently with a wide-tooth comb or a proper wig brush, always starting at the ends and working up, store it properly, and avoid sleeping in it. Remy human hair is naturally tangle-resistant, so with gentle handling it stays smooth.
Over time processed hair (blondes) will become dry and start to tangle. Usually in high touch areas such as the hairline or nape of neck. They need more care with hydrating hair masks regularly. We offer in-salon keratin treatments (at our Sydney store) or if it is an older piece we can replace sections of hair with new hair.
The most common causes of unexpected tangling are:
- Purple shampoo is very drying, using too often or applying directly to the hair (dilute it in water instead) will cause the hair to feel dry and tangle.
- Chemical sunscreen, perfume, or fragrance reacting with the hair.
- Clarifying or "detox" shampoos stripping the hair.
What products should I use with this hair?
Because this is high-quality human hair, less is more — the fewer products you put on it, the better it looks and the longer it lasts. You really only need a few essentials: a hydrating, sulfate-free shampoo, a good hair mask to keep the lengths soft and nourished, and a heat protectant whenever you use hot tools. Avoid heavy oils, serums, and lots of styling product, as these can build up and weigh the hair down. Keep it simple and gentle, and your piece will stay beautiful.
We have product recommendations in our Care Guide.
How do I store it when I'm not wearing it?
On a wig stand or mannequin head (ensure mannequin head circumference is smaller than your cap size), which helps it hold its shape and keeps the hair from tangling. Keep it out of direct sunlight and away from heat. A little care here goes a long way toward making it last.
How often should I wash my wig or hair topper?
The frequency of washing your wig or hair topper depends on factors like your lifestyle, the environment, and your personal preference. Generally, washing every 10-20 wears is a good guideline. However, if you're in dusty or humid environments, or if you use styling products frequently, more frequent washing might be needed. Have a look at our Care Guide for more information.
Will my wig come with the lace already cut?
No, unless you request us to do so, the wig will be shipped with the lace uncut. If you request to have the lace cut, then we will do it for you, just keep in mind that by doing that the sale is considered final and the return policy is voided.
Can you cut or restyle my wig or hair topper?
Absolutely, we've got skilled hairdressers at Goldylost who can cut and style your wig anyway you like. You can choose options on the product page before purchase or contact us to discuss. Photos of your preferred cut or style can be helpful. Customizing a wig or hair topper will void the return policy.
What does "pre-order" mean?
It means the piece isn't currently in stock and it will be created. Each piece takes around 10–12 weeks to create. Sometimes a piece may already be in creation so the timeframe will be shorter. If the piece isn't in creation yet, then the time frame will be 10 - 12 weeks from the order date. This is an estimate, not a guaranteed delivery date.
What is a custom order?
A custom order is a piece built to your specifications — a custom cap size, color, cut, all-one-length, no ear tabs, higher density, silicone instead of clips, or a look from an inspiration photo. Because they're made just for you, custom orders are final sale and can't be cancelled or returned.
Can I exchange instead of returning for a refund?
If you receive your order and you love the quality, but not that exact piece you can return it for a full credit. This will allow you to order a new piece that will work better for you. Please see the returns policy for full details.
Can I order a piece in a different size?
If you can not find your preferred cap size or length in your favorite color or style, you can complete a custom order form or reach out to us via our contact page. For stock colors, lengths and cap sizes, they will often be considered a preorder and still eligible for return.
Is the packaging used discreet?
Yes, all our wigs and hair toppers are shipped out in packaging that does not say anywhere that it is a wig or topper. Your privacy is a top concern for us!
I have an urgent inquiry about my order, can I contact someone in that case?
Yes — we're always here to help. If you have an urgent inquiry, please give us a call:
- Sydney, Australia: 0430 099 942
- Florida, USA: 954-459-1693
If we're unable to answer, please leave a voice message or send a text so we're aware of the issue and can get back to you straight away. You're also welcome to email us at contact@goldylost.com. We do our best to reply to every message as soon as possible, usually within 1–2 business days.
Can I cancel my order?
You can, but be quick — we often ship next day, and once an order has shipped we can no longer cancel it. Cancellations made before the item ships incur a cancellation fee per item, deducted from your refund. You can read the full details on our Refunds Policy.
What if my piece is faulty?
It's rare, because every piece passes through many hands and a thorough inspection, but accidents happen. Inspect your piece carefully as soon as it arrives, and before making any alterations like cutting the lace, contact us within the 72-hour window if you think something's wrong. Notify us via the Request a Return form, send photos of the issue, and if requested, return it for inspection. If it's deemed faulty, we'll repair or replace it and reship to you. We can't accept fault claims on pieces that have already been altered.
What counts as "original condition"?
The piece may be tried on for fit only. It must not be altered in any way — no heat tools, no cutting the lace, no washing — and must be odor-free (including styling products, smoke, and perfume). It needs to come back in its original packaging, with all tags attached and all clips closed, shipped with tracking and signature on delivery.
What is your return policy?
We accept returns on all stock wigs and toppers purchased online, including pre-orders. Eligible returns can receive a refund minus a restock fee or a full credit.
We do not accept returns on in-store purchases, sale items, custom orders, or stock pieces that have been altered (lace cut, colored or cut) — unless the item is faulty.
Where do you ship from?
We have two locations — Sydney, Australia and Doral, Florida, USA — and your piece ships from whichever location currently has the item in stock. This helps us get your hair to you as quickly and safely as possible, wherever you are.
Where do you ship to?
Worldwide, with two exceptions: Italy and Spain, due to government restrictions on importing human hair.
Is shipping free?
Yes — shipping is free worldwide, with full tracking and signature on delivery. We don't cut corners on the carrier, either; we pay for fast, safe, express shipping.
How long does shipping take?
Within Australia, we ship Express with Australia Post and within the USA, we ship with Fedex - usually 2 - 3 business days. For international orders, we ship DHL Express, with estimated worldwide delivery of 5–10 days depending on location. These are estimates — delays can happen and are outside our control, so we can't guarantee delivery by a specific date.
Will I have to pay customs or duties?
It depends on where you are. We currently cover the cost for items travelling between Australia and the USA. Other international customers may be charged inbound duties or taxes by their own customs before delivery — these are set by your country, paid to them (not to us), and are non-refundable by us.
Can I track my order?
Yes. All items are shipped with full tracking and signature on delivery. You'll receive tracking details by email once your order ships. If you haven't received them, please check your spam folder or contact us and we will provide them again.
Can I request no signature on delivery?
Unfortunately not. Because our pieces are high-value items, every order is sent with signature on delivery to keep your hair safe and make sure it reaches you securely. It's a small step that protects your investment and gives us both peace of mind.
